AX ENGINE / DOCUMENTATION

Use AX Engine on your Mac.

From your first model download to a local API request. Start with the GUI, or use the CLI for scripts and models outside the app catalog.

Choose how you want to work

Use the macOS app to browse the AutomatosX catalog, download models, start a server and chat in Playground. Choose the CLI for Terminal workflows, automation and other supported models. The app bundles a runtime; installing it does not add a global ax-engine command to your shell.

Check your Mac

The GUI requires macOS 26.2 or later and Apple Silicon M2 or newer. The CLI requires macOS 26 or later on M2 or newer. A 16 GB Mac is suited to one compact model and short context. Larger models, longer conversations and multiple resident models need more memory. Check the exact pack before downloading.

Your first conversation

Install and open the app. Go to Models → Catalog, choose a pack that fits your Mac, and click Download. Wait for it to become ready in Local Library. In Server, choose the installed model and click Start Server. Open Playground, select the running model, and send a message.

Try: “Explain this Python function and suggest one improvement.” Start with a short text request before testing larger prompts or media. A successful text reply does not establish image, audio or tool support.

GUI catalog or another model?

The GUI offers the curated AutomatosX catalog on Hugging Face for supported runtime paths. For a third-party pack, use the CLI with an exact repository ID or a prepared local directory. Support still depends on architecture, quantization, tokenizer files and available memory. A catalog entry is not a guarantee of certification or memory fit.
