“command not found: ax-engine”
The GUI installer does not add a CLI to PATH. Use the CLI installation if you need Terminal commands. If you already installed it, reopen Terminal, run which -a ax-engine, and check which installation doctor reports.
which -a ax-engine
ax-engine doctorA download failed or the model is incomplete
In the GUI, open Models → Transfers, inspect the error and retry when ready. Check free disk space and the network. An empty Transfers queue does not mean the Local Library is empty. For CLI downloads, a 429 response means rate limiting; wait for the retry interval. A private or gated repository needs its own access permission. Public AutomatosX catalog models need no account.
The model will not load
Check the exact model’s architecture, format, complete weight files and memory requirements. A cached folder may contain metadata without all weight shards. Try a smaller supported pack and shorter context. A model appearing in a catalog does not prove that it fits your Mac. Use the CLI for compatible third-party folders rather than trying to import them into the GUI.
Connection refused or a model is missing
Open Server, select a ready installed model and start the server. Check the configured port and the copied API URL. Connection refused usually means no service is listening at that address. /v1/models reports the running server’s models, not every model stored on disk. Use the unauthenticated health probe below on the default port.
curl -fsS http://127.0.0.1:31418/health401 or an API key stopped working
For an app-owned server, copy the key again after every restart. Paste it into the request Terminal or client and send Authorization: Bearer with the key. The clipboard expires after 60 seconds if unchanged. A key from another server instance will not authenticate this one.
Playground cannot send or history is full
Confirm that the server is ready and a running model is selected. If saved history reaches its limit, Export the conversation and then Clear to continue. If saved data is unreadable, use Reveal Saved Conversation to inspect or preserve it before clearing. Raising output limits does not increase the model’s supported context.
An update or signature check failed
Quit the app with Command-Q before retrying. Use the verification-only command to check the release without replacing the app. Keep Gatekeeper enabled. If verification fails, retry later and retain the error for a bug report. Update a Homebrew CLI through Homebrew; it is separate from the app’s runtime.
curl -fsSL https://download.automatosx.com/ax-engine-desktop/install | bash -s -- --verify-only
